Madden NFL 08
03-Sep-2007
After having not played any Madden NFL since the Sega Genesis
days (which would be about a span of 10 years), plunging into this
latest version is a trip. Madden
NFL 08 for the Xbox 360 is beautiful and
plays very well, but the game has evolved tremendously and
become a very sophisticated (and at times complex) sport sim.
The 360 controller has 13 buttons and they perform different
functions depending on the player selected and sometimes it's hard
to keep track of everything. The real trick to being successful
appears to be play calling. Call an unexpected play and you'll get
good yardage. Call a play that the defense expects or that is easily
countered by the defensive play and you'll face a swarm of
computer-controlled defenders as they blow up the O-line and whoever
has the ball.
I've figured out passing and can throw consistently for 400 yards
(not too difficult with Tom Brady), but rushing alludes me as I can hardly amass 50 yards on the
ground (with a measly 2 yards per carry average). I just can't seem
figure out how to utilize Laurence Maroney for an effective running
game.
