Kids in the Hall was a Canadian comedy troupe comprised of five
men: Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and
Scott Thompson. Their TV series, which ran from 1988 to 1994,
featured the five men playing almost every character in the skits.
In 1996, they brought their antics to the big screen in one of the
funniest movies ever.
Brain Candy is a dark comedy about a team of scientists
who develop a drug that cures depression. Their employer, a large
pharmaceutical company, rushes it to market and it quickly becomes a
top seller. Unfortunately, the drug is discovered to have side
effects.
The five main actors play anywhere from 4 to 9 characters each.
This versatility adds an unrivaled dimension of satisfaction to the
film. The wide variety of characters will keep you entertained
throughout.
Kevin McDonald is perfect as the nerdy lead scientist that
invents the drug. Dave Foley makes the perfect assistant to the
egomaniacal pharmaceutical company president, which is played
brilliantly by Mark McKinney. Bruce McCulloch shines as the heavy
metal rocker and cancer boy. And there are few comedians as funny as
Scott Thompson, especially here as he plays a lonely grandmother and
a self-denying gay father. And this is just a sampling of the
multitude of characters each actor portrays.
Brain Candy is so good, I wish it didn't end. I want to
see more. I want to learn more about the characters. There's not
much higher praise than that.
