Friends kill with candy.
Review: This was about the fifth time I've seen Jawbreaker, but
the first time on DVD. I'll always enjoy this stylish & dark
teen comedy. The characters, dialogue and fashion are over the top and
the actresses (especially Rose McGowan) fit their roles perfectly. The movie begins with a
bang, loses its way a bit in the middle, but returns to a satisfying
end. It begins to meander when the made-over Vylette (Judy Greer) rockets into
position as the new queen of the school. How it happens so suddenly
and easily isn't demonstrated well at all. It feels like a few scenes
that would have helped the story may have ended up on the cutting room floor. Jawbreaker isn't
as good as Heathers, but when all is said and done, it's a fun
time accompanied by a killer soundtrack.
Cinematic Moment: The
slow-motion scene of the girls walking down the school hallway to
the tune of "Yoo
Hoo" by Imperial Teen.
I didn't think much of Judy Greer the first time I saw Jawbreaker,
but I've since become a big fan of hers especially now that she has
those bags under her eyes. Bags aren't normally desirable, but
Judy's look fantastic and accentuate her overall appearance so well.
I have a thing for girls that look depressed.
