Home-made Zombie Tales.
Review: The makers purport Zombie Chronicles is in the
"tradition of 'Tales From The Crypt' and 'Dawn of the
Dead.'" I'm here to say the makers are absolute liars.
Zombie Chronicles is a great example of bad film making.
When it comes to horror movies, I can forgive a lot, but these tales
of horror are scripted, directed, acted and shot so poorly that the
shortcomings cannot be forgiven.
In fact, this film is nothing but shortcomings. The stories lack
originality, the actors are inexperienced, the director has
horrendous instincts, and the crew didn't have the right equipment.
Calling this a film would be inaccurate as it was clearly shot with
consumer-grade cameras; some portions even have a VHS quality to
them. The only part that worked was the special effects as the
zombie makeup was impressive for such a low budget. Sadly, the
actors behind the makeup weren't taught how to act, the cameramen
weren't told how to properly record the action and the director
didn't bother to put out a good product.
As I was finishing up this review, I noticed one other positive
note: the graphic artist did a good job with the box cover. That's
something, I guess.
The Razor Digital
Entertainment DVD release has a regular 2D version on one side and a
special 3D version on the other. The 3D version requires proprietary equipment made by Razor3D
and there are numerous cheesy
coming-out-of-the-screen-straight-at-you shots. I have no idea how well or even if the 3D setup
works at all, but something tells me it's more likely to induce
headaches than thrills. I perused the
distributor's web site to see what else they had and found a catalog of low-budget horror
flicks. If Razor Digital specializes in bad kitschy movies, then Zombie Chronicles fits
right in.
Check off another bad zombie flick. Bring on the next one!
