Review: I just added a Brain Candy
page to the Films & TV section, so here are some highlights
of the women in the film.
The five main actors do plenty of cross-dressing in the Kids in the Hall skits
and Brain Candy, but there are also some real women featured.
The only nudity is Scott Thompson baring his bottom, so there's
nothing raunchy here.
Bruce McCulloch's rockstar and Kevin McDonald's lead scientist
characters have a couple of cute groupies played by Nicole de Boer, who
played Ezri Dax and replaced Terry
Farrell on Star Trek: DS9, and Krista Bridges, who went onto
star in Land of the Dead among other films.
A young Kathy
Greenwood of Whose Line Is It Anyway? has a small part
as Mrs. Hurdicure's daughter-in-law.
The
cutest thing in the movie is Erica Lancaster, who plays the daughter
of Scott Thompson's repressed gay dad character. She looks like a lanky
Britney Spears. It's too bad she doesn't have more screen time.
This is probably the sixth time I've watched Brain Candy,
but the first time on DVD, and it was as entertaining as ever. Brain
Candy is a perfect dark comedy that displays the talents of
five brilliant comedic actors. Whether or not you're familiar with the Kids in the Hall TV
show (I wasn't), you'll enjoy this quirky comedy.
